In December I was honored to receive the $750 “Good Idea Grant” and I am so pleased to summarize the progress of my project.  My idea for a ‘Bird in the Hand’ project came to be as a result of a SUTQ training at Seiberling Naturealm.  While enjoying a nature walk, I observed a group of children and adults handfeeding chickadees.  The children were highly engaged, obviously delighted, and very focused on their interactions.  This became the catalyst to create a bird-friendly interactive environment within our playground at the Nurtury in Medina.

enjoy the conference. Keep your eye on the web page for the call for scholarship applications and next year it could be you!

My trip to the OEYC conference

First and foremost, I am compelled to say “Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!” to those who gave me the opportunity to journey to the conference. It was a life-enhancing experience. Even though I have been guiding children’s education and watching them learn for over 30 years, I had many “AHA!” moments throughout my 2-day splendid affair. Professionals, who valued children; as well as those who appreciated individuals who worked with children, surrounded me.  It was delightful and insightful.

I plan on entering the grant contest again next year and I encourage others to put pen to paper- or put fingertips to keyboard- however; please don’t write better than I do, I want to win again. My appreciation is deep and I feel it has revived my joy of my craft.
